Is Winning the Lottery Really a Sign of Good Luck?

What would you do if you won the lottery?

To be honest, I do not strongly believe in things like lotteries. I do not consider winning a lottery to be a true sign of good fortune. In my opinion, real satisfaction and self-respect come from hard work, discipline, and honesty—such as clearing an examination like the UPSC or achieving success in a respectable public service.

In today’s world, people are increasingly attracted to shortcuts and easy paths. This is why lotteries, betting, and gambling have gained popularity. Platforms like Dream11 and My11Circle have trapped many people so deeply that escaping from this cycle becomes extremely difficult. I am not saying this to appear idealistic, because I myself once thought in this direction. However, with time, understanding, and experience, I was able to come out of this mindset, for which I am truly grateful to God.

I believe that success earned through hard work strengthens a person from within. On the other hand, the desire for easy money slowly weakens an individual and distances them from real-life struggles and growth.

If by chance I were ever to win a lottery, I would first fulfill my basic and essential needs in a limited way. But my greatest happiness would come from helping those who genuinely need support. From my experience, the peace gained by doing something for others is far greater than any material pleasure.

Therefore, if I ever get such an opportunity, I would like to work for society and the environment—especially for those who are most in need. For me, that would be the true meaning of winning.
